Excellent kana practice

Great app. I love not needing the internet to practice my hiragana and katakana. Very smooth opperation and user-friendly. I would like it more if it automatically corrected you after around 5 or 10 wrong answers. I dont like having to research the kana online when I cant read the symbol or just dont know it. Other than that im definetly glad i got this app. So useful for practice.

Real Kana = Real Practice

If you want efficient practice of Hiragana and Katakana in a simple, clean environment, then this app is for you. Its usabilty is remarkable and its interface is both practical and simple. This is great practice!

Best App for learning Kana

Loved the website, so I bought the app. Perfect translation. Two requests: add a "# right" indicator (really important), and possibly a drawing practice of the kana. Had to get a second app for the latter, and the former I did manually. Great app!

Excellent!

Very easy to use

Sometimes, simple is best

By far, the best Japanese alphabet learning system out there. Simple! I learned Katakana in LESS than a week!!!!!!! No fancy shmancy stuff here, straight to the point.

Great app, but room for improvement

I love this app. Its great for drilling sound-symbol relationships, but there are a few simple improvements Id like to see . 1. It would be useful to be able to select (or deselect) individual characters rather than just series. Sometimes I want to target a half-dozen symbols (in different series) with which Im experiencing difficulty, and thats impossible to do. It could be done without complicating the UI (the simplicity of which I love) by something like having a series become grayed out when its selected, and then touching individual symbols to deselect them, or the other way around. 2. In order to be able to work with new symbols (or series) more intensively while still being exposed to ones Ive already learned, I wish that there were a way to designate the frequency with which particular characters appear. Even something as simple as being able to select high, medium, or low frequency would be helpful in terms of user customization. Could be done without complicating the UI by combining the idea about graying out selected series with using a light, medium, and dark shade of gray.

Best App For Kana

I work for a Japanese bank and have been learning Japanese. I have tried all the books, a couple of software packages, and several iPhone apps. This was the app that actually helped me to learn both Hiragana and Katakana, in less than two weeks no less. The best innovation here is the different writing styles. When you are first learning, you can use a clean, easily recognizable style. Once you feel more confident, you can add more difficult styles, forcing you to recognize even chicken scratch writing. I feel confident now that I can read even a coworkers hand written notes. Looking forward to Real Kanji!!

Super effective!

Best app out there for quickly learning to recognize hiragana and katakana. Great for practicing when you have a few spare minutes. Please release an iPad version too!

Never underestimate the value of a good set of flashcards.

Ive used Rosetta Stone and taken a real Japanese class, but THIS is what I used to learn the characters. This app may be simple, but thats exactly why it works so well.

Best app!!

This is seriously the best app to learn all of the Kana. This app made me learn it faster than writing it down to try to learn it by repetition. You can choose which Kana you want to be drilled on. Either just hiragana, just katakana, or half hiragana/ half katakana. Or whatever you want! Its really great. ありがとうございます。

Awesome App!

This app helped me learn Hiragana and Katakana fast and I still use it whenever Im bored waiting somewhere! Very helpful and worth every penny

Great app

This is the fastest way to learn the kana alphebets. In less then a week i could see any hiragana and know the sound(knowing sound then remembering the symbol is a different story but, thats my learning problem and ive gotten better through practice). It is very simple which adds to how easy it is. I would definately get this app if you are serious about learning japanese. P.S. for those that want a "night" feature, set your triple click home to white on black and you are good for late night lessons

It freakin works

Great for reviewing the kana and has helped me read them much faster- you should still get a pen and some paper, no help for writing however.

Completely worth it, super slick!

This app, along with its online version, got me reading both hiragana and katakana in a matter of a few days. For reading recognition, this is probably the best app out there. It accomplishes its goal while being simple and sleek. Learning to read hiragana and katakana would be a lot more taxing and difficult if this app/program didnt exist. Fantastic job by the creators. Five stars without a doubt.

Worth the money

One word: AMAZING! This app is the best katakana & hiragana learning app I have ever used! It is very easy and in a days time I already learned 30 hiragana! I really love this app!! Alongside kanji LS Im already learning Japanese profoundly faster than before! So worth the money!

Awesome

Ive been wanting to learn Japanese since I first watched Chibi Vampire in Japanese in 5th grade. And now, I actually can :D I would like some way to count how many I get correct, or a quiz game sort of thing. Thatd make it even easier.

Awesome App

This app is really great. Ive just started learning Japanese and this app has really helped me learn the hiragana and katakana easily. Its just like the website. I know about 50 or more of the kana in just two days. And... To everyone out there who says you cant see how many you have right and wrong you can. Just tap on the kana and youll see the romaji, how many right and how many wrong. Now if youll excuse me I have lots more kana to learn...

Mult-Font examples really help!

When the app tests you to identify a kana from a number of different fonts (including real world chicken scratch fonts), it really makes you think about each and every stroke in the kana! Some of the fonts are so bad, you are forced to really focus and pay attention to the strokes - this is great! Thanks for a great app! Can you add an option to adjust font size? It would really help to have the kana a bit larger?

Great app

This app is amazing it doesnt exactly teach you the meanings but its helped me so much within hours on understanding the way stuff is pronounced.

Its ok

It would be nice if it supported larger iPhone 5 screens, especially considering the characters are so small and hard to read.
